Finishing The Wings

11-1-01
All the quickbuild kit parts have been inventoried and it's time to finish the wings. The factory has done most of the work already. They are substantially assembled. The first step is to fabricate and install the aileron control rods.

11-14-01
The control rods have been fabricated and installed. The pitot line and lighting wires have been installed.

The ailerons have been hung. All we need is a couple of flaps installed and the bottom skin riveted on and the wings will be close to completion.

11-15-01
I decided to stop riveting skins and put in the landing lights today. It was an easy process, but I wish the company that supplied the lights had put them together. It would have saved me a lot of time (and not taken them much time). I guess that's why they call it a "kit" plane - some assembly required.

11-18-01
There is only one bottom skin to attach and the wings are closed. The flap brace and flap installation are all that remain to complete the wings.

11-20-01
The wings have been closed. The flap braces are half on. With any luck, the wings will be done tomorrow.

11-21-01
Here is a rare glimpse of a completed RV-7 wing. The second wing will be completed shortly - then on to the fuselage!!

11-22-01
Happy Turkey Day! This bird has been in the oven for about 3 1/2 months now. The tail and wings seem to be done. But, the rest of it is far from ready. Here are the finished wings. I'll have to make a stand of some sort to get them out of the way. This portion of the project only took about 40 hours. I am sure appreciating the quickbuild nature of this kit.
