Installing Lancair Eyeball Cabin Vents 3-12-02 Lancair Eyeball Cabin Vents are a nice upgrade to the plastic vents supplied by Van's. The primary objection to the parts supplied by Van's is a poor seal on their plastic eyeball vent which creates an air leak into the cabin when the vent is closed. The Lancair vents (PN 2133) are an airliner type aluminum vent that closes completely and has a more finished professional look. The first step was to cut the hose nipple portion off the back of the Van's duct piece that would normally be installed on the back of the Van's vent. This hose nipple was epoxied onto the screw ring that fits onto the back of the Lancair vent. ![]() Here, the epoxied nipple/screw ring have been fitted to the Lancair vent ![]() A mounting plate was cut out of .035 aluminum. A hole was cut in the bracket to accept the vent and an angle bracket was riveted on to provide mounting to the inside of the fuse skin. ![]() This is the finished assembly riveted to the fuse skin. ![]() Here, the instrument panel has been fitted to complete the installation. This installation looks very nice and should provide a very functional cabin cool air system. ![]() |
