The Quickbuild Kit

The RV-7 quickbuild kit consists of fuselage and wings that have been substantially finished by the factory. Van's estimates the quickbuild kit will cut building time by 35-40%, leaving 500 to 800 hours of work left for the builder. Below is a picture of the quickbuid kit for the RV-7 with the finished plane.

The empennage (tail) kit is shipped in the standard unbuilt form. This allows the builder to become familiar with all the building processes necessary to complete the plane. The fuselage and wings show up later in two large crates. The fuselage and wings are factory finished except for panels that must remain off to provide access for additional parts installation such as control rods, wiring, etc.

Well, it's here. The quickbuild fuselage and wings and the finish kit have arrived in three large crates. I was lucky to fit them in one load between the back of the truck and the car trailer.

Here the crates have been unloaded into the garage. There are a lot of parts here. I was feeling pretty good about finishing the empennage. But now, I'm feeling like I've only just begun.

Here is the canoe (the fuselage). I think I'm going to be spending a lot of nights in the garage. There seem to be a lot of pieces for me to add to this to make it into a plane.

All this looks a little overwhelming today. But I think once I jump into it, the great engineering and planning by Van's aircraft will result in these pieces falling together as well as the parts I have worked on thus far. By the way, the workmanship on the parts I have inspected so far looks really good.
