Transition Training

3-15-02
I thought it would be a good idea to get some tailwheel time in advance of finishing the RV-7. This month I have started training in a Super Decathlon. I have heard that the RV is easier to land than the Super D. Which is a good thing, because after two lessons I can tell it's going to take a few landings to get things looking smooth. The Super Decathlon is a high wing aerobatic plane with 200HP. It's nice flying a rental plane with some power for a change. The Super D climbs out at between 1000 and 1500 ft per minute. This is a nice change from the 172s I've been flying, and a good introduction to the HP range of an RV. The Decathlon also has a substantial power off decent rate like the RV. By the time the RV is ready for flight, I should have a full check out in the Super D, and a reasonable number of tailwheel hours in the logbook.
