The Canopy 9-7-02 The canopy is finally underway. The jetison hinge mechanism has been completed. ![]() The aft canopy latch and side release have been fabricated and installed. ![]() 9-9-02 The forward portion of the canopy frame has been completed. The hinges have been matched and drilled. ![]() 9-11-02 The canopy frame is almost together. Plastic cutting time is very near. ![]() 9-12-02 The first trim on the front edge of the plexiglass has been made. It was pretty easy. The cut mark between the rear window and the front tip up portion has been made as well as additional trim lines. It's time to cut this sucker in half! ![]() 9-17-02 The canopy has been cut, trimmed and pilot drilled. The canopy job has turned out to be relatively easy, but it definitely takes some time to get everything fitted and trimmed and looking good. About a hundred fasterners need to be installed to finish this off. ![]() 9-27-02 The rear window is finished and put away for safe keeping. The side skirts are being fitted to the forward canopy. I hate to say this, but I figured out how to crack the canopy. Here is an explanation of what happened, why it happened, and how to not let it happen to you - Canopy Crack - Notes ![]() 10-09-02 The canopy job is finished with the exception of the fiberglass blend of the front of the bubble to the forward canopy skin. For this task I will get some help from a friend who is far better at fiberglass techniques than I. The lower latches and the aft upper latch have been installed. The canopy assist shocks have been installed. ![]() |
